Re-enhancing Teacher Skills through Training |
|
Good education stems from having great teachers. The situation of Philippine education today is very poor, given that the budget allocated to the Department of Education is not enough to sustain all schools in the country. Having to face this challenge, the Department of Education in San Carlos City looks for every means in order to cater the needs of the students, both in elementary and in high school, in order for them to compete in a national level.
San Carlos Development Board, Inc. found this situation very alarming. What would make great teachers? What could the community do to promote better education for local students? SCDBI met with Dep-Ed to brainstorm on solutions to this problem.
On April 21 to May 2, 2008, a seminar called “Re-enhancing Teachers’ Skills Through Training” was done in Colegio de Sta. Rita, High School Campus for the four (4) focused subjects: Elementary Science, Secondary Science, Secondary Mathematics, and Secondary English. Several trainers from Western Visayas University were asked to facilitate the 10-day training. The training aims to improve the teaching skills of teachers thru new techniques. A total of 136 participants attended the training. After the 10-day training, an exhibit was done which was attended by the SCDBI Executive Director and its Board of Trustee, Dr. Victoriana Cabili. SCDBI and Dep-Ed will conduct an evaluation of the teachers in the middle of school year 2008-2009.
